Chonnam National University and Lee Lee-nam to Hold Media Art Convergence Concert Convergence Piano Concert Resonance of Light Poster.

Chonnam National University is presenting a special convergence performance in collaboration with world-renowned media artist Lee Lee-nam to expand the creative ecosystem for young local artists.

According to Chonnam National University on November 27, the 'Resonance of Light - Lee Lee-nam Convergence Piano Concert,' a project selected for the G-ROOT (Community-Linked Innovation Research Support Project) at the graduate school, will be held on December 17 at Minju Maru on the main campus.

This performance is a joint project planned by artist Lee Lee-nam and Choi Hyeji, performance planner and CEO of ARPLANET. It features a new form of sensory stage by combining media art videos with a repertoire of Romantic piano pieces.

Choi Hyeji, who oversaw the project, is a master's student in the Department of Music at Chonnam National University and a young planner who founded ARPLANET to address the lack of performance opportunities for young local artists. Through ARPLANET, she has planned and directed more than 14 performances. For this concert, she was responsible for the entire process, from project selection, planning, collaboration coordination, promotion, branding, and stage direction, to performing Brahms' Op.118.

Collaborating artist Lee Lee-nam is a leading Korean media artist internationally recognized for reinterpreting traditional paintings and masterpieces through digital technology. His global stature was recently reaffirmed when his work was selected for the official program of the 2025 APEC Summit.

Lee Lee-nam stated, "It is very important for young local artists to take the initiative in creating their own stages," expressing his support for the project's purpose and his reason for participating.

The concert commentary will be provided by Professor Park Eunsik of the Department of Music at Chonnam National University. Professor Park, a pianist who graduated at the top of his class from Seoul National University and holds a doctorate from Rutgers University in the United States, continues to perform both domestically and internationally. He will offer explanations and musical interpretations during the performance.

Three graduate students from the Department of Music at Chonnam National University will participate on stage, performing representative Romantic repertoire: Chopin's Ballade No. 3 (Kim Sujin), Brahms' Six Pieces Op. 118 (Choi Hyeji), and Schumann's Fantasiest?cke Op. 12 (Lee Seoyoung).

During their performances, Lee Lee-nam's media art will be broadcast in real time on the stage's rear screen, with video effects combining light, ink, and color harmonizing with the music to complete the convergence performance.

This project is also significant as a 'research-based performance,' having been selected for the G-ROOT research program. Audience surveys, video recordings, and participation data collected throughout the concert will be used as research material for policy proposals and analysis of the creative ecosystem for young artists in the Gwangju region.

Project lead Choi Hyeji commented, "There are not enough stable stages for young artists in Gwangju. I wanted to create a stage myself and connect it to research and policy. This was made possible thanks to the support of the Chonnam National University graduate school, artist Lee Lee-nam, and Professor Park Eunsik. I hope this performance will serve as an opportunity to broaden the possibilities for young local artists."

Meanwhile, all seats for the concert are free of charge, and admission is available through advance reservation via Naver.
