Gwangju Seo-gu Council Chairman Jeon Seungil: "Assemblyman Kim Oksu Must Stop Making False Claims"

Jeon Seungil, Chairman of the Gwangju Seo District Council, unusually expressed his discomfort on November 25 regarding Seo District Council member Kim Oksu's "five-minute speech" during the regular session. This statement was made in response to Assemblyman Kim's claim that "the Democratic Party's nomination process was flawed."

On November 26, Chairman Jeon issued a statement saying, "Assemblyman Kim must clearly explain what exactly was wrong and in what way," adding, "This is a typical case of double standards in politics, which is not the attitude expected from a four-term council member."

Chairman Jeon further pointed out, "Assemblyman Kim was elected as a Democratic Party-affiliated candidate in the 2010 and 2014 local elections, but in the 2015 by-election, he publicly supported an independent candidate and was expelled from the New Politics Alliance for Democracy. Later, he was reinstated during the Democratic Party's 2022 general amnesty, but after being cut off during the nomination review, he voluntarily left the party and ran as an independent."

He continued, "It is inconsistent to attack council members who were nominated through a legitimate process by claiming that 'the nomination was flawed.' I cannot help but question whether Assemblyman Kim's logic is that the process is legitimate if he passes, but flawed if he is rejected."

Chairman Jeon also took issue with Assemblyman Kim's remarks about "beneficiaries of crime."

He stated, "Assemblyman Kim referred to Democratic Party Seo District council members as 'beneficiaries of embezzlement and fraud,' raising suspicions about slush funds. However, many council members did not participate in the overseas training, and to label all Democratic Party council members as being involved in crime is a clear dissemination of false information and constitutes serious defamation."

In conclusion, Chairman Jeon said, "Assemblyman Kim's series of remarks directly insult the Seo District Council and damage the reputation of the ruling Democratic Party," adding, "We will consider all possible responses, including legal action."
