Daily Active Users Surpass 1.5 Million
NCSoft's massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) "Aion 2" has recorded 25 billion won in sales just one week after its launch.
According to multiple sources in the gaming industry on November 26, "Aion 2" generated approximately 25 billion won in revenue across both PC and mobile platforms during the seven days since its release on November 19.
"Aion 2" is the official sequel to NCSoft's 2008 title "Aion: The Tower of Eternity" and was launched in Korea and Taiwan on November 19. Immediately after launch, it ranked among the top in both revenue and downloads on app markets, and the daily active user (DAU) count surpassed 1.5 million.
This title has been praised for its new revenue model, which moves away from the traditional probability-based item system and instead focuses on cosmetic items, monthly subscription memberships, and battle passes.
Industry sources report that about 90% of total payments were made through NCSoft's proprietary PC payment system.
Shinyoung Securities projected in a report released on this day that "Aion 2" will achieve cumulative global sales of around 500 billion won next year. In particular, since the majority of payments are PC-based, the commission fee rate is estimated to be less than 10%, which is about 20 percentage points lower than on mobile platforms. As a result, the company expects commission savings to reach approximately 100 billion won.
Meanwhile, NCSoft released in-game data from the first week after launch. A total of 2,527,698 characters were created by users, with 47% belonging to the Elyos faction and 53% to the Asmodians. In addition, 275,867 accounts purchased monthly memberships, and 556,433 characters purchased cosmetic items.
