"If you hesitate and lose the election, the crisis is even greater"
"If you take the easy path, you will easily collapse"
Lee Joonseok, Representative of the Reform New Party, dismissed the idea of meeting with former People Power Party leader Han Donghoon to form a conservative alliance, saying he has little interest in doing so.
On November 25, Lee appeared on YTN Radio's "Kim Youngsoo's The Interview" and shared his thoughts on Han Donghoon and the internal situation of the People Power Party. He explained that he himself was persecuted by President Yoon Sukyeol, while Han Donghoon was the crown prince of the Yoon administration who failed in his attempt to act as regent.
Lee also stated that if Han feels a sense of crisis, he should take a more decisive and bold approach, similar to Lee's own actions. When asked by the host if this meant Han should form a new party, Lee replied, "That could be one way, but for example, Dongtan is a district where the Democratic Party received 65% of the votes. If he boldly decides to run in the most difficult place without calculating his chances, who within the conservative camp could criticize him?"
Lee further commented that while losing an election would be a significant political crisis for Han, failing after hesitating would be an even greater crisis. Lee said, "Everyone wants to pursue what's realistic. For example, would I have lost three times in Sanggye-dong for no reason? If you take the easy path, you'll always collapse easily. Receiving a nomination in a safe district like Busan or Daegu is every People Power Party politician's dream."
When asked whether he personally likes Han, Lee responded, "I don't think Han Donghoon is particularly fond of me. (If he asked to meet) I really have no intention of meeting him."
