Wando Myeongsasimni 'Photo Spot' Fails to Stand Out in Pictures

Assemblywoman Ji Min: "Promotional Installation Makes Social Media Photos Difficult"
Hwahuengpo Tourist Information Center Virtually Abandoned

Assemblywoman Ji Min of the Wando County Council (Democratic Party of Korea, Proportional Representation) raised consecutive issues regarding the promotional installation at Myeongsasimni Beach and the operation status of the Hwahuengpo Tourist Information Center during an administrative audit at Wando County Office on November 25.

Assemblywoman Ji stated, "The promotional installation at Myeongsasimni Beach, intended for social media photo verification, is not fulfilling its original purpose." She pointed out that the white structure is installed diagonally, which dulls its color, and the background text is hard to read, making it difficult for visitors to take verification photos.

She presented video examples of Mangsang Beach in Gangwon Province and Hakdong Beach in Geoje, explaining, "Promotional effectiveness can vary greatly depending on color and text arrangement alone."

She added, "Although there are many installations at Myeongsasimni Beach during the summer, they often fail to stand out in photos," and demanded, "Measures should be taken to improve harmony with the surrounding environment."

The issue of poor management at the Hwahuengpo Tourist Information Center was also brought up. Upon visiting the site, Assemblywoman Ji found the center closed with the lights off and a notice indicating 'permanently closed' posted on the door.

Ticket booth staff reportedly responded that "the center often remains closed." Assemblywoman Ji stated, "If there are hardly any tourists and the operation is ineffective, the county should consider either changing the operation method or closing the center altogether."

In response, Tourism Director Ahn Hwanok said, "I was aware of the promotional installation, but had not identified the issues pointed out on site," and added, "We will review the possibility of changing its location or arrangement." He continued, "We will also inspect the tourist information center and devise improvement measures."
