The Ministry of the Interior and Safety received 106 outstanding cases of regulatory innovation from across the country and, after cross-examination and expert review, selected the top 10 cases for presentation. The winners were then chosen through on-site presentations and evaluations during the event.
At the competition, Hwaseong City won the Excellence Award for its case titled, "Regulatory Innovation Captures Both EV Charging and Fire Prevention!" This initiative allowed the installation of electric vehicle charging facilities in parks with only an occupancy permit, following an amendment to the Urban Parks and Green Spaces Act. In addition, the city proposed strengthening the safety features of electric vehicle batteries, prompting the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to establish new guidelines.
Jung Myunggeun, Mayor of Hwaseong City, stated, "We will continue to pursue practical, citizen-centered regulatory innovation that brings real changes to the lives of our 1.06 million residents."
