Lee: "Naturally, There Was Nothing Problematic"
It was belatedly revealed that the police had determined Lee Junseok, Representative of the Reform New Party, was not guilty regarding his alleged "sexually violent remarks" during a presidential election TV debate.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on the 24th, the police decided not to refer Representative Lee to the prosecution on November 18, regarding allegations of slander against a candidate and dissemination of false information under the Public Official Election Act.
In the official notice of the investigation result, the police stated, "It is difficult to reject Representative Lee's claims, and there is insufficient evidence to conclude that he was aware the statements were false at the time. Therefore, there is a lack of evidence and no charges are being filed."
Previously, Sungjoo Park, Chief of the National Investigation Headquarters, concealed the non-referral decision during a regular press briefing the previous day, saying only, "The investigation is proceeding according to procedure. We will reach a conclusion soon," when asked about Representative Lee's case.
On the same day, Representative Lee wrote on Facebook, "There is no reason for the police, under the Democratic Party administration, to intentionally make a decision in my favor," adding, "There was no falsehood whatsoever, and naturally, there was nothing problematic, so justice has prevailed."
He further stated, "From the perspective of a debate participant, if you ask artificial intelligence (AI), you get irrelevant answers; if you ask political questions, you get 'That's extreme'; and if you raise hypothetical allegations about a candidate's family, you get counter-accusations. My memory of the presidential election debates is that, instead of answering questions, they only tried to wage frame wars every time."
