Prosecutors have requested an eight-year prison sentence for a group involved in a voice phishing organization based in Cambodia.
On November 25, the 15th Criminal Division of the Seoul Eastern District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Yanghun) held a trial for Mr. Nam and Mr. Woo, who were charged with joining a criminal organization and other offenses.
The prosecution requested an eight-year prison sentence and an order to forfeit 6,496,810 won from Mr. Nam. For Mr. Woo, prosecutors also sought an eight-year prison sentence and a forfeiture of 25 million won.
According to the prosecution, they worked as romance scam counselors at the "Hanya Call Center," a voice phishing organization led by a foreign ringleader known as "Ma Dongseok," and are accused of defrauding five victims out of approximately 300 million won.
The sentencing hearing for these individuals is scheduled to take place on December 19.
