Strengthening Cooperation in Environmental Education, Policy Advisory, and Setting Project Directions
Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 25th that it officially launched the "1st Hwaseong City Environmental Education Committee" on the 24th to establish a systematic foundation for advancing environmental education.
Over the next two years, the committee will strengthen the cooperation system among key stakeholders in environmental education and serve as an advisory body for local environmental education policies, as well as set directions for major projects.

The committee consists of a total of 15 members, including 2 ex officio members and 13 appointed members. Experts from various fields in the local community are participating, including the Hwaseong City Council, Hwaseong Osan Office of Education, Hwaseong City Institute, Hwaseong City Environmental Foundation, Hwaseong City Talent Development Foundation, and Hwaseong Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
At the first meeting held in the seminar room of the U&AI Center on this day, the final report on the establishment of the "Hwaseong City Environmental Education Plan" for 2025 to 2030 was presented. The environmental education plan, developed by the Hwaseong City Institute, includes an overview of the current status of environmental education in Korea and Hwaseong City, the vision, goals, and strategies for Hwaseong City's environmental education, as well as implementation tasks and action plans.
Based on the established environmental education plan, the city plans to submit an application next month for designation in the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment's public contest for "statutory environmental education city" status.
Kwon Seokmin, Director of Hwaseong City's Climate and Environment Policy Division, stated, "Environmental education is an essential factor in preparing for the future and a practical driving force for achieving carbon neutrality," adding, "We will operate a variety of environmental education programs to further strengthen citizens' capacity to practice carbon neutrality."
