NSDPD Protest Causes Non-Stop Train Pass-Through at Hyehwa and Hansung University Stations on Seoul Line 4

Due to a subway boarding protest by members of the National Solidarity for the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (NSDPD), service on parts of Seoul Subway Line 4 between Hyehwa Station and Hansung University Station was disrupted.

Members of the National Solidarity for the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Jeonjangyeon) held a press conference on June 16 at Gyeongbokgung Station in Seoul to mark the launch of the National Policy Planning Committee, urging the establishment of policies related to persons with disabilities, including the guarantee of rights for deinstitutionalized persons with disabilities and the protection of health rights for persons with disabilities. Seoul Metro announced on the 25th that, due to an illegal protest by a specific disability rights group, southbound trains on Line 4 have been passing through Hyehwa Station and Hansung University Station without stopping since 8:24 a.m.

NSDPD activists have been staging boarding protests because the government’s budget proposal for next year does not include funding for disability rights.
