President Lee Jaemyung paid tribute at the tomb of Mustafa Kemal Atat?rk, the first president of Turkey, during his state visit to Turkey on the 24th (local time).
On this day, President Lee began his official schedule in Turkey by visiting Atat?rk's mausoleum in Ankara, the capital. He laid flowers at the tomb of Atat?rk, who is revered locally as the "Father of the Nation," and observed a moment of silence as a requiem played. President Lee paid his respects dressed in a black suit and tie.
Afterwards, President Lee wrote in the museum guestbook, "In honor of Atat?rk, we will move forward together for the shared prosperity of our brother nations who have shed blood together."
Atat?rk is a war hero who led the Turkish War of Independence and became the country's first president. He is credited with establishing the principles of the separation of religion and state and secularism, as well as laying the foundation for Turkey's development by embracing European culture and institutions.
Following this, President Lee is scheduled to hold a summit meeting and attend a state banquet with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
