At around 8:05 p.m. on November 23, a fire broke out at a pigsty in Gaya-myeon, Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam Province.
As a result of the fire, two pigsty buildings were completely reduced to ashes, and 768 sows perished. The fire department estimated the property damage at approximately 2.03486 billion won.
At the time of the fire, nine people-including three Koreans and six foreigners-were working on site. All of them evacuated on their own, and there were no casualties.
Upon receiving the report, the fire authorities dispatched 119 personnel and 27 pieces of equipment, bringing the fire under control by 10:21 p.m. that day.
Fire response level 1, which had been issued at 8:22 p.m., was lifted at 9:33 p.m. after the main blaze was contained.
The police and fire authorities are conducting a joint investigation on November 24 to determine the exact cause of the fire.
