Incheon City Obtains ISO 45001 Certification for Major Civil Disasters

On November 24, Incheon City announced that it has obtained ISO 45001 certification for its safety and health management system in the area of major civil disasters.

ISO 45001 is an international standard for occupational health and safety management established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It serves as a benchmark for evaluating whether an organization has a systematic management approach to creating a safe and healthy work environment and preventing industrial accidents and diseases.

This certification officially recognizes that Incheon City has established a system that meets international standards in all processes of major civil disaster prevention and risk factor management.

The assessment comprehensively evaluated the status of Incheon City's safety and health management system for major civil disasters, the level of hazardous and risk factor management, on-site inspection systems, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Passing this certification means that Incheon City has established a system capable of identifying disaster risks in advance and managing them in an integrated manner.

Since the enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act in 2022, Incheon City has formed a Major Civil Disaster Prevention Team and has established a comprehensive plan each year for the prevention and response to major civil disasters. The city has also strengthened its management system by identifying hazardous and risk factors for each facility, providing on-site customized consulting, and conducting training for responsible personnel.

During the certification process, the city conducted sample inspections by facility type, revised manuals and guidelines, and promoted the standardization of on-site response procedures.

Previously, in 2023, Incheon City obtained ISO 45001 certification in the field of major industrial accidents.

Yoon Baekjin, Director of the Incheon City Citizens’ Safety Headquarters, stated, "The major civil disaster certification clearly demonstrates that Incheon City is equipped with a safety and health management system that is internationally trusted," adding, "We will continue to create an environment where citizens can live with peace of mind through ongoing management and the spread of a safety culture."
