A Children's Musical Festival Featuring the Stories of Kim Hongdo and the Imperial Examination
Opening in November and December
Andong is preparing a family performance festival to bring festive cheer to the end of the year. Two original children's musicals, led by local artists, will be staged consecutively in November and December at the circular stage of Andong Confucian Land. The local cultural community is expressing anticipation, calling this "a new turning point for Andong-style family performance content."
On Saturday, November 22 at 3 p.m., the new children's musical "Kim Hongdo, the Painter Who Dreamed" by the theater troupe Curtain Call will open the festival. This will be followed by the popular work "The Bookworm Fool's Great Success in the Imperial Examination," which combines laughter and lessons, with performances at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 13.
Both productions are original plays by playwright Kwon Odan, who has presented numerous works, and are directed by Son Byeongguk, known for his detailed stage direction. All cast members are local artists from Andong, performing as part of the theater troupe Curtain Call.
Playwright Kwon Odan stated, "Kim Hongdo and Kim Anguk are figures deeply connected to Andong," adding, "I hope this will be a time for children to discover dreams and hope through the performances."
In particular, Curtain Call has built a strong reputation in northern Gyeongbuk with the children's musical "The Bookworm Fool's Great Success in the Imperial Examination," establishing itself as a leading theater troupe. Their ability to combine local identity and creativity is expected to shine on this year's year-end stage as well.
Andong has created a stage that brings together tradition, creativity, and the talents of local artists to broaden the horizons of children's culture. These two original musicals are expected to become symbolic moments that represent the cultural vitality created by the local community itself, going beyond simple performances.
The popular work "The Bookworm Fool's Great Success Chaos," which contains both laughter and lessons, unfolds one after another.
