"I Want to Become an Astronaut Too"... Inspiring the Next Generation
Ahead of the fourth launch of South Korea's first independently developed space launch vehicle, Nuri, Hanwha Group has opened a venue for children to learn about and experience space science.
Hanwha Group (Chairman Kim Seungyeon) announced on the 23rd that it held the children's space science experience event, "Lift-off, my NURI," on the 22nd at the Yuseong-gu campus of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in Daejeon. The event was organized to commemorate the upcoming fourth launch of the Nuri rocket on the 27th. A total of 80 elementary school students from grades 4 to 6 across the country participated as "child researchers." The program was hosted and organized by Hanwha Group, with the Korea Aerospace Administration, Korea Aerospace Research Institute, and KAIST serving as partner organizations.

The event consisted of three sessions: a lecture on the story of the Nuri rocket, hands-on space science experiences, and rocket making and launching. The program focused on experiential learning, allowing students to listen, create, and understand through direct participation.
In the first session, "Welcome Aboard," Jinhyuk Kim, Senior Researcher of the Launch Vehicle Engine Team at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, explained the independent development process of the Nuri rocket, launch preparation procedures, and flight methods, sharing insights into space development. Following this, three graduates of Hanwha's space education program "Pebbles of the Universe," including Baek Soyul (3rd year at Chilgok Middle School in Daegu), shared their own stories of challenge to inspire and encourage younger students.
In the second session, "Mission Project NURI," science content creators Coco and Bora conducted space science experiments. Through various experiments and observation activities, students were able to experience space in a more concrete way. In the final session, "Lift-off, my NURI," students launched their self-made three-stage water rockets outdoors. Seong Mingun, a fifth grader at Jeju Daejeongseo Elementary School, said, "Watching the rocket soar high made me want to become an astronaut. I hope the Nuri rocket next week will fly even higher and stronger."
A Hanwha Group representative said, "We hope this program will help children discover the joy of science and spark their curiosity about space. We will continue to expand educational programs so that future generations can challenge themselves toward 'their own universe.'"
