At approximately 4:53 a.m. on November 22, a fire broke out on the second floor of a four-story multi-family villa in Sangbong-dong, Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province.
Eight residents evacuated on their own, but a man in his 20s, identified as A, and a man in his 30s, identified as B, both residents of the second floor, were found in cardiac arrest. Another man in his 50s, identified as C, was transported to the hospital after inhaling smoke.
Among them, A died during treatment, while B is reported to be in serious condition.
Additionally, about 56 square meters of the building's second floor were destroyed or scorched, resulting in property damage estimated at approximately 25 million won by the fire department.
Upon receiving a report from a nearby resident, fire authorities dispatched 61 firefighters and 14 pieces of firefighting equipment, and fully extinguished the fire by 5:38 a.m. that day.
The police and fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire based on an on-site inspection and interviews with residents.
