Highest Incidence in a Decade
City Mobilizes All Efforts to Prevent Further Spread
As the 'flu season' intensifies, the Yangsan City Public Health Center has taken urgent action to protect the health of local residents.
Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province held a vaccination promotion campaign on November 21 in the bustling Nam-bu Market area, aiming to raise public awareness about vaccination, which is the most effective preventive measure, in response to the recent surge in influenza cases.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, during the 45th week of 2025 (November 2-8), the sample surveillance showed that the number of suspected influenza cases was 50.7 per 1,000 outpatients, which is more than double the previous week's figure (22.8) and the highest level for this period in the past 10 years.
In response, the city conducted an on-site campaign to prevent the spread of influenza in the community during the winter and to increase participation in vaccination. The campaign included informing citizens about the necessity of vaccination, providing tailored consultations for high-risk groups, educating the public on respiratory infection prevention guidelines, and distributing promotional materials.
In particular, high-risk groups such as children under 13, pregnant women, and seniors aged 65 and over are at a higher risk of complications and are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated. Seniors aged 65 and over are also recommended to receive the COVID-19 vaccine simultaneously. The city plans to continue promoting vaccination in collaboration with local medical institutions and public facilities.
An official from the public health center stated, "The incidence of influenza has risen significantly compared to previous years, and vaccination is the most effective defense. We urge everyone to get vaccinated at a nearby designated medical institution before the high-risk winter season begins, not only to protect your own health but also to help prevent the spread within the community."
