"26 Honam Agendas" Presented to Jeong Cheongrae... Democratic Party Special Committee Submits Official Proposals

According to the Honam Development Special Committee on November 21, the committee reported on projects related to the development of Gwangju and the Honam region and shared updates on its activities at the "Honam Development Agenda Party Leader Briefing" held in the main conference room of the National Assembly the previous day. The briefing was attended by Party Leader Jeong Cheongrae, Policy Committee Chairperson Han Jeongae, Honam Development Special Committee Chairperson Seo Samseok, and Senior Vice Chairperson Lee Byunghoon, among others.

In this report, the committee organized and requested national support for 8 urgent projects, 11 mid- to long-term projects, and 7 large-scale regional projects. The urgent projects include the preservation and utilization of 5·18 historic sites, establishment of an AI gifted high school in Gwangju, building a future mobility infrastructure, promoting fair operation of the KTX Honam Line, relocation of the Maruk-dong ammunition depot, launching international flight routes, and restoring the honor of Gwangju Student Independence Movement merit recipients.

The mid- to long-term projects cover financial support and institutional improvements for relocating the military airport, creating a national pilot city for AI mobility, establishing an integrated secondary battery support center, building RE100 smart energy infrastructure, fostering the micro medical robot industry, attracting semiconductor companies, establishing a K-Culture hub, and restoring urban streams. The large-scale regional projects include advancing the biohealth industry in the Honam region, constructing the new Gwangju industrial railway line, creating a metropolitan railway between Gwangju and Naju, and building the Honam Mega City Expressway (Gwangju to Jeonju), among others.

The Gwangju Committee of the Special Committee stated that it gathered local opinions through internal meetings, policy discussions, site visits, and expert lectures. The committee explained that the proposals were structured to focus on changes that local residents can directly experience.

Representative Jeong Cheongrae said, "Just as Honam has contributed to the development of democracy, the nation must respond by supporting Honam's development," adding, "I understand that the special committee has directly addressed local issues and achieved significant results." He also stated, "We will thoroughly review urgent and large-scale regional projects such as creating a national pilot city for AI mobility, expanding the Honam Expressway, and promoting fair operation of the KTX Honam Line."

Senior Vice Chairperson Lee Byunghoon said, "The special committee was launched to address Honam's economic vulnerabilities," and emphasized, "The proposed agendas must be realized as budget, policy, and legislation under the Lee Jaemyung administration."
