From Self-Reliance in Nuclear and Thermal Power Plant Design to SMRs and Offshore Wind Power
Declaration to Become a Future Energy Technology Leader
Korea Electric Power Corporation Engineering & Construction Company (KEPCO E&C) has declared its ambition to become a future energy company as it marks its 50th anniversary.
On November 20, KEPCO E&C held a ceremony at its headquarters in Gimcheon, North Gyeongsang Province, to commemorate its 50th anniversary and officially announced its vision to grow into a "century-old company" based on its achievements over the past half-century. The event was attended by over 500 people, including government officials, representatives from related organizations, and employees.
KEPCO E&C, established in 1975 with the goal of achieving self-reliance in power plant design technology, has led the design of most nuclear and thermal power plants in Korea, establishing itself as a leading energy technology institution. The company has also demonstrated its global design capabilities by participating in power plant projects in the Middle East, Europe, and other regions. Recently, KEPCO E&C has been expanding its business into new industries tailored to the carbon-neutral era, such as offshore wind power, small modular reactors (SMRs), and digital transformation (DX).
The anniversary event began with the screening of a 50th-anniversary video, followed by a commemorative speech, the publication of a 50-year company history and brand book, and the declaration of a new value system. As part of the side events, neuroscientist Jang Dongseon delivered a special lecture on "The Future in the Age of AI," and a panel discussion was held to discuss strategies for strengthening competitiveness in areas such as talent development, design quality, work innovation, and organizational culture.
In addition, the "Nuclear Power-Related Organizations Council" and the "Korea Nuclear Quality Association (KNQA) General Assembly" were held to discuss directions for technological cooperation aimed at strengthening research and development collaboration and the industrial ecosystem.
Kim Taegyun, President of KEPCO E&C, stated, "KEPCO E&C began with the national mission of achieving self-reliance in power plant design technology, and it is thanks to the support of many people that we have grown into a world-class energy technology company. Moving forward, we will continue to work closely with the industry, related organizations, and local communities to become a global technology leader driving the future energy industry."
