Gangjin County in South Jeolla Province is being recognized as a leading example in the province for its preparations for the integrated care project, which is set to be officially implemented next year. The county announced on November 20 that it has been rapidly establishing its project framework since being selected as a pilot site for the second phase of the medical and care integrated support program in July of this year.
The Senior Welfare Division of South Jeolla Province recently visited Gangjin County to inspect the status of the project’s implementation. As a result of the inspection, the division determined that Gangjin County is ahead of other cities and counties in all areas, including identifying eligible recipients and linking services. The county will therefore be used as a model case for educational purposes for other local governments.
After forming a dedicated integrated care team in July, the county established a service delivery system and began identifying eligible recipients within just four months. Currently, the county is providing or connecting services to those identified as eligible.
Among the 18 cities and counties in the province participating in the technical support pilot project without budgetary assistance, Gangjin County was reported to be the only local government to directly identify integrated support recipients and establish and connect service plans for them.
The integrated care project promoted by the government is a system in which local governments play a central role, enabling residents facing difficulties in daily life to receive necessary health and care services in their communities. The relevant law was enacted in March of last year, and nationwide implementation is scheduled for March 2026.
With the full-scale implementation set for next year, the county has completed preparations such as enacting ordinances, improving the delivery system, building a service network, and forming an integrated support council. Gangjin County also plans to strengthen public outreach starting in January of next year.
