On the 19th, President Trump made a surprise announcement of the meeting schedule on Truth Social, his self-created social networking service, stating, "Communist New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has requested a meeting." President Trump added that further details, such as the specific agenda of the meeting, would be disclosed at a later time.

Previously, on the 16th, President Trump mentioned Mayor-elect Mamdani, saying, "The New York mayor wants to meet us. We will resolve something. I hope everything goes well in New York," thereby revealing that Mamdani's team had requested the meeting.

The New York Times reported on the 17th that Mamdani's team had indeed contacted White House officials last week to request a meeting with President Trump.

The two have not concealed their hostility toward each other. For several months, President Trump has referred to Mayor-elect Mamdani as a "100% communist maniac," arguing that his election would damage New York City.

Immediately after his victory, Mamdani also made sharp remarks in public, calling President Trump a "dictator."

According to The New York Times, at a recent press conference, Mayor-elect Mamdani expressed his intention to address New York City's housing costs should he meet with President Trump.
