[Review] Customization and Manual Play Shine in 'Aion 2'... The Real Game Begins After Max Level

Inheriting the Popular Elements of the Original, Evolved Flight System
Focusing on the Core Fun of MMORPGs

A large-scale, PC-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) has been released for the first time in a while. The star of the show is 'Aion 2' from NCSoft.

'Aion 2' inherits and develops the popular elements of the original 'Aion.' While the storyline remains centered on the conflict between the Elyos and Asmodians, just like the original, the server you play on depends on which faction you choose. Once you make your choice, it cannot be changed, so if you plan to play with friends, you must select the same faction.

The character customization, which attracted many female players to the original, is fully present in 'Aion 2' as well. The presets alone are sufficient, but you can further customize lip shape and color, eye depth, pupil size, and even the jawline. Watching your uniquely styled character move with Unreal Engine 5 graphics adds an extra layer of enjoyment.

The game also stands out with its diverse movement mechanics. The original 'Aion' made headlines in 2008 by being the first domestic game to introduce flying content. 'Aion 2,' through further advancements, allows characters to fly without being obstructed by trees or mountains, and they can also swim underwater to travel.

The time required to reach the maximum level is not prolonged. This is because the game is designed so that you can fully enjoy its content only after reaching the so-called 'max level.' High-difficulty dungeons, such as Abyss travel and single or party dungeons, become available only after reaching max level. For office workers, it reportedly takes about two to three days to reach the maximum level. NCSoft explained that the player-versus-player (PvP) elements, which were highly praised in the original, have been further developed to align with current trends, such as player-versus-environment (PvE).

Controls require your hands to move quickly across the keyboard for movement, dashing, jumping, flying, and using various skills. Most skills can be used while moving, making combat smooth. In particular, the game features a 'late judgment' system, where the actual hit is determined at the moment of impact, adding tension and realism.

An 'Assist Mode' has been added for the mobile environment. While 'Aion 2' supports PC and mobile cross-platform play, it is true that it is difficult to expect the same level of control convenience on mobile as on PC.

This feature sparked debate among players even before the game's release. Opinions were divided between those who wanted the authentic RPG experience, even if it meant some inconvenience, and those who preferred more comfortable gameplay. After much consideration, NCSoft initially launched the game without Assist Mode, but reintroduced the feature on the first day in response to user feedback.

However, it is not fully automatic. Once the user selects a target, only the skills are used automatically, making it more of an auxiliary function. This reduces the operational burden and lowers fatigue without diminishing the fun of the game.
