This initiative was introduced by the city to address the increasing demand for care due to an aging population, the shortage of long-term care personnel, and calls for better working conditions.
The allowance is set at 30,000 won per month. Eligible recipients include caregivers and social workers affiliated with long-term care institutions who have worked for more than three consecutive months and have worked at least 60 hours in the previous month. As of the end of October, 1,350 workers at approximately 90 long-term care institutions are expected to benefit from this program.
Kim Kyunghee, Mayor of Icheon City, stated, "A stable working environment for long-term care workers directly leads to higher-quality care services for citizens," adding, "We will continue to do our best to improve the treatment of care workers in the future."
