This event, held to commemorate the inauguration of Sasaki Misao as the new director of the Asia-Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics, was themed "Cosmology as Fundamental Physics." Leading global researchers in cosmology and gravitational theory gathered in one place to share their latest research achievements.

The conference featured 14 world-renowned scholars as speakers, including Pi-Shen Chen, Distinguished Professor at National Taiwan University; Rashid Sunyaev, Honorary Director of the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics; and Alexander Kusenko, Professor at UCLA.

They exchanged research trends and discussed future collaboration plans with domestic researchers and young scientists, highly praising Pohang's basic science environment.

Lee Kangdeok, Mayor of Pohang, congratulated Director Sasaki on his inauguration, stating, "Pohang is a city of basic science where the Asia-Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics and the Max Planck Institute have firmly established themselves. This experience will be a significant advantage in attracting the Asia-Pacific AI Center as well."

The Asia-Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics, established in 1996, is the only international theoretical physics research institution in Korea. It has continued cooperation with 19 member countries, operating international joint research and exchange programs for young researchers. Pohang believes that its accumulated research infrastructure and operational experience will be key competitive advantages in attracting the Asia-Pacific AI Center.

Pohang City plans to use this international conference as a stepping stone to become a hub for Asia-Pacific cooperation connecting basic science and AI research, and will continue to expand international consensus in the future.
