Extracting Oil from Waste Plastics... Dosiyujeon Commercializes World's First Low-Temperature Recycled Oil

Completion of 'Wave Jeongeup' Plant in Partnership with Woori Technology
Production of High-Quality Recycled Oil from Waste Vinyl Without Incineration

Extracting Oil from Waste Plastics... Dosiyujeon Commercializes World's First Low-Temperature Recycled Oil

On November 18, Dosiyujeon held a completion ceremony for the 'Wave Jeongeup' plant, which was jointly established with Woori Technology in Jeongeup, North Jeolla Province. This plant has commercialized a world-first technology that produces high-quality recycled feedstock at naphtha level, used as raw material for plastics, by catalytically decomposing waste plastics at low temperatures (below 300°C) without incineration.

The newly completed plant facility can process up to 6,500 tons of agricultural waste vinyl and other waste plastics generated annually by farms, and produce up to 4,550 tons (approximately 5.4 million liters) of recycled plastic feedstock oil.

This process, independently developed by Dosiyujeon, is an eco-friendly technology that uses ceramic catalysts and electric energy to decompose waste at temperatures below 300°C without incineration.

According to the company, the pyrolysis process at temperatures below 300°C does not generate harmful substances such as dioxins or furans, and even from unsorted mixed waste (such as standard volume-based waste bags), only vinyl and plastics can be separated.

The eco-friendly low-temperature pyrolysis technology for plastics has obtained all domestic and international certifications, including ISCC PLUS, which certifies international sustainability, PSM (Process Safety Management System) from the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, and KTL quality verification from the Korea Testing Laboratory.

A representative from Dosiyujeon stated, "Passing the ISCC PLUS certification is significant because it demonstrates that South Korea has achieved technological independence in the plastic recycling industry, which had previously relied on advanced countries' technologies."

As a result, South Korea has secured the qualifications and facilities to directly export equipment or recycled feedstock to the global circular economy market for recycled materials, including the European Union (EU), the United States, Vietnam, and the Middle East. Dosiyujeon already signed an export contract worth up to 15 billion won annually with Vietnam's Nam An Group in 2024.

The low-temperature pyrolysis technology commercialized by Dosiyujeon is a next-generation eco-friendly technology that addresses the combustion, emission, and low-purity issues of conventional high-temperature pyrolysis methods. Dosiyujeon explained that through more than 30 years of research and development, it has developed over six patents, including a "low-temperature decomposition and sublimation device for combustible waste," as well as a polymer decomposition technology that breaks carbon rings using wave energy from ceramic catalyst balls.

Jung Younghoon, CEO of Dosiyujeon, emphasized, "The 'Wave Jeongeup Plant,' which has successfully commercialized Korea's independently developed non-combustion low-temperature decomposition technology for the first time in the world, is a national achievement."

At the completion ceremony, Dosiyujeon signed a strategic partnership agreement (PSA) with UK-listed Sabien Technology Group and a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Low Carbon, a company specializing in carbon capture and utilization technology (CCU), to establish a waste plastic oil-based blue naphtha production base at the Gangjin Industrial Complex.

More than 200 figures from government, industry, and academia attended the ceremony, including Jung Younghoon, CEO of Dosiyujeon; Kim Jungyun, Chairman of Dosiyujeon; Noh Gapsun, CEO of Woori Technology; Jeon Daeyoung, Vice President of Woori Technology; Park Jungwoo, CEO of Wave Jeongeup; National Assembly members Yoo Dongsoo, Park Kyuntaek, Kim Yongtae, Song Younggil (former and current); Abdulmohsen Aljazeel, CEO of Saudi PEDCO; Richard Parris, Chairman of the UK Sabien Group; Derek Kim, Director of Trafigura Korea; Kevin Yoono, Director of Trafigura; Daniel Han, Director of Saudi SIRC; and Yoo Miran, Head of BASF Asia, Germany.
