Dongjak District Office's 15m-Tall 'Dongjak Star' Slide Transformed into Christmas Tree

Lighting Ceremony to Be Held on the 19th
Anticipated to Become a Year-End Hot Spot

Dongjak District in Seoul (District Mayor Park Ilha) has given its iconic giant slide, the 'Dongjak Star,' a festive makeover as a Christmas tree at the new district office.

The district launched this project so that residents can enjoy the year-end atmosphere close to home without traveling far. Through this initiative, the district aims to increase visitor traffic and revitalize both the special lease shops inside the office building and the surrounding commercial areas.

The Christmas tree decorations center around the 'Dongjak Star' and the courtyard railings, featuring Santa balloons, tree ornaments, garlands, and curtain lights to create a vibrant festive mood. In particular, the photo zone set up around the slide is expected to become a popular spot for families to take memorable photos.

Before the official launch, the district will hold the 'Dongjak Star Christmas Lighting Ceremony' at 5 p.m. on November 19. The event will feature jazz and carol performances, a lighting show, slide rides, and a photo session, with about 70 residents attending, including the district's PR ambassador, actor Lee Si-eon, and broadcaster Kang Seok. Starting with the lighting ceremony, the district plans to continue year-end programs such as various music performances until early January next year.

The 15-meter-tall 'Dongjak Star' has attracted significant attention, reaching a cumulative total of 20,000 riders just two months after the new office opened. The 35-meter-long Slide No. 1 is free to use for anyone aged seven or older and at least 120 cm tall, while the 19-meter-long Slide No. 2 is available for those at least 110 cm tall, with protective gear and under staff supervision. The slides operate every hour on the hour for 20 minutes, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Park Ilha, Mayor of Dongjak District, said, "I hope everyone visiting the district office during the year-end season fully enjoys the Christmas spirit," adding, "We will continue to provide a variety of content so that the new office can become a cultural and relaxation space in residents' daily lives."
