Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Shin Sangjin) announced the dynamic beginning of the Wirye Fourth Industrial Revolution Cluster by holding the 'POSCO Global Center Groundbreaking Ceremony' together with POSCO Holdings Co., Ltd. at Site 2 of the Wirye Urban Support Facility Land on the 17th.

This groundbreaking ceremony served as the symbolic first step in establishing the Wirye Fourth Industrial Revolution Cluster and marks the creation of a core forward base for POSCO Group's future industries.
The event was attended by Seongnam Mayor Shin Sangjin, POSCO Holdings CEO Lee Jutae, members of the National Assembly and Provincial Council, city council members, and local residents. The program included the screening of a promotional video, a project introduction, congratulatory and commemorative speeches, the signing of a mutual growth agreement, and a commemorative ceremony.
The 'POSCO Global Center' will serve as the core hub of the Wirye Fourth Industrial Revolution Cluster. It will be built on a site of 49,308 square meters (equivalent to seven soccer fields), with five basement levels and 12 floors above ground. POSCO Holdings and major group companies will move in, establishing the center as a key hub in the Seoul metropolitan area and as an R&D center. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2026, with completion targeted for 2030. Upon completion, the center is expected to create approximately 3,300 permanent jobs and generate an economic impact of around 16 trillion won.

On this day, Seongnam City and POSCO Holdings Co., Ltd. signed a 'Mutual Growth Cooperation Agreement for the Development of the Wirye District Community,' agreeing to strengthen cooperation in various fields, including nurturing local industries, expanding industry-academia-research technological cooperation, opening public facilities and contributing to the local community, creating jobs, and increasing tax revenues.
Mayor Shin Sangjin stated, "Today's groundbreaking ceremony is the true starting point for the creation of the Wirye Fourth Industrial Revolution Cluster and will become a new turning point for joint growth between businesses and the city. We will continue to strengthen our mutually beneficial cooperation with POSCO so that Seongnam can leap forward as an innovative city leading future industries."
A POSCO Holdings representative commented, "The Wirye POSCO Global Center will serve as both a metropolitan branch and strategic base for the Future Technology Research Institute, providing a crucial foundation for completing the group's industry-academia-research cluster connecting Pohang, Gwangyang, the Seoul metropolitan area (Seongnam), and overseas. We will work together with Seongnam City to foster the industrial ecosystem and contribute to the development of the local community."
Seongnam City plans to establish a 'Seongnam-style future industry ecosystem' that grows together with the region by developing the Wirye area into a Fourth Industrial Revolution cluster, alongside Pangyo Techno Valley and the Ori Station Area Fourth Techno Valley, thereby continuing sustainable innovative growth.
