According to the construction industry on the 17th, the accident occurred at around 8:39 a.m. that day during the unloading of marine construction materials. It is reported that during the process of transferring materials from a bulk cement trailer (BCT) to a barge, Mr. A, who was nearby, fell into the sea. Mr. A belonged to construction company B, a subcontractor of DL E&C, the main contractor.

The Coast Guard and 119 rescue team responded to the report and immediately rescued Mr. A, transferring him to the hospital. However, he was already in cardiac arrest at the time of rescue and was ultimately pronounced dead. All site operations were immediately suspended following the accident.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor has dispatched labor inspectors to the site to determine the exact cause of the accident and plans to launch an investigation to determine whether there was a violation of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.

This is the first fatal accident this year at a DL E&C construction site. However, it is the second fatal accident within the broader DL Group. In August, a worker died while working at the new apartment construction site in Singok-dong, Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province, which is managed by DL Construction, a subsidiary of DL E&C. At the time, the CEO of DL Construction took responsibility for the accident and resigned.
