The event was attended by County Governor Nam Han-gwon, Gyeongbuk Provincial Assemblyman Nam Jinbok, Ulleung County Councilman Choi Byungho, and about 20 students from the Agricultural Product Processing Startup Academy. As a time capsule performance, all participants filled two 100-liter oak barrels with Cornelian cherry wine, pledged to open them at the Ulleung Airport opening ceremony scheduled for the first half of 2028, and signed the barrels with their own signatures to commemorate the occasion and express their hopes for the airport’s successful launch.

Park, a student at the Agricultural Product Processing Startup Academy who attended the event, said that it was even more meaningful because each of the two 100-liter oak barrels was filled with Cornelian cherry wine made from Ulleung County’s representative forest specialty, Usan gorosoe sap, and Ulleung’s pure spring water, Ulleung Yongchulsoo, in hopes of a successful airport opening.

In addition, a tasting event was held for four types of wine currently being developed by Ulleung County for the upcoming aviation era (Ruby Roman wine, Shine Muscat wine, wild grape wine, and pumpkin wine), one type of distilled spirit (Cornelian cherry distilled spirit), and Ulleung kudzu juice, a health drink made from kudzu that grows abundantly in the county. Participants exchanged in-depth opinions on the growth potential of Ulleung County’s alcoholic beverage and drink processing industry, and evaluated these processed products using local specialties as key items that will enhance the competitiveness of the county’s processing industry and provide tourists with a unique culinary experience exclusive to Ulleung in the future.

Governor Nam Han-gwon stated, “With the opening of Ulleung Airport, we hope to attract a significant increase in tourists and revitalize the local economy. Just as the Cornelian cherry wine matures in the oak barrels filled today, we hope the successful opening of Ulleung Airport will bring new vitality to Ulleung’s economy and tourism.”
