On November 14, Jung Myunggeun, Mayor of Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province, expressed his strong commitment to fully supporting the creation of a future mobility industry ecosystem at the inauguration and groundbreaking ceremony for Kia’s Purpose Built Vehicle (PBV) dedicated factories, held at Kia Autoland Hwaseong.

The event was held to celebrate the completion of the medium-sized PBV Plant 4 (EVO Plant East), a dedicated electric vehicle PBV factory, as well as the groundbreaking of the large-sized PBV Plant 5 (EVO Plant West).

More than 200 key figures from government and industry attended the ceremony, including Mayor Jung; National Assembly members Song Okjoo and Lee Junseok; Prime Minister Kim Minseok; Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jeonggwan; Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dongyeon; Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Euisun; and Kia President Song Hosung.

Mayor Jung stated, "We will continue to create an environment where companies can invest with confidence, and we will foster Hwaseong as a business-friendly city that leads innovation in future industries."

On the same day, Mayor Jung proposed to Prime Minister Kim the establishment of a new national export port, tentatively named 'Hwaseong Port.' He believes that a new export port is necessary to resolve the logistics congestion at the saturated Pyeongtaek-Dangjin Port and to strengthen the export competitiveness of the automotive industry, which is a national key industry including Kia.

Previously, the city has operated a swift permitting support system for the establishment of the PBV dedicated factories, while also continuing to support the expansion of basic infrastructure and improvement of transportation networks.
