According to the county, this training was organized to incorporate advanced overseas techniques in order to enhance the productivity of Jangsu apples and to further develop the cultivation system.
The training was held for 50 apple growers, with Dr. Mark Erickson, CEO of Waima Orchard and an apple cultivation expert from New Zealand, invited as the instructor.
Based on his more than 20 years of experience in researching and promoting dense apple planting techniques, Dr. Erickson lectured on the following topics: designing multi-stem dense planting systems; tree shape management and branch training techniques; high-quality production strategies through vigor control; and post-harvest management and market response measures.
Afterwards, trainees practiced the core techniques of tree shape management themselves at the test field in front of the Agricultural Technology Center.
The participating farmers expressed high expectations for the adoption of advanced techniques, stating that the training gave them a clear understanding of the direction and management skills for multi-stem and dense planting.
Choi Hunsik, the county governor, said, "I expect that this training, which shares the expertise of an overseas specialist with local farmers, will greatly strengthen the competitiveness of Jangsu apples. We will continue to expand the foundation for smart agriculture and provide specialized education to help improve the actual income of farmers."
Meanwhile, the Jangsu County Agricultural Officer School provides systematic, item-specific professional education for local farmers, and this apple multi-stem dense planting course is being operated with the goal of improving the productivity and technological innovation of apples, the county's representative crop.
