Genetic Deletion Crucial to Sexual Development
"Rumors of Hitler's Jewish Ancestry Are Completely Unfounded"
A new study suggests that Adolf Hitler, the German Nazi dictator, may have suffered from Kallmann syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that disrupts hormone secretion during adolescence. On November 13 (local time), international media outlets including The Guardian reported that the British Channel 4 documentary "Hitler's DNA" will air on November 15, presenting the results of an analysis of a sample believed to be Hitler's blood.

The production team reportedly discovered a "bloodstained piece of cloth" cut from the sofa where Hitler committed suicide at a military museum in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and extracted genetic information from it. When Hitler's relatives refused to provide new DNA samples, the team used a saliva sample collected ten years ago by a Belgian journalist from a male-line relative of Hitler. This sample showed a perfect match with Hitler's blood sample on the Y chromosome, confirming the bloodline. The analysis revealed a deletion in the "PROK2" gene, which plays a crucial role in sexual development, in Hitler's DNA.
This genetic anomaly is a common feature found in patients with Kallmann syndrome, a disorder in which puberty hormones are not properly secreted, resulting in delayed or halted development of reproductive functions. Patients with Kallmann syndrome typically have low or unstable testosterone levels and, in some cases, exhibit cryptorchidism, a condition where the testes do not descend to their normal position. Hitler is known to have been diagnosed with "right-sided cryptorchidism" according to medical records from Landsberg Prison, where he was incarcerated after the failed Munich Putsch in 1923. This matches the findings from the recent genetic analysis.
Turi King, director of the Milner Centre for Evolution at the University of Bath, who led the research team, emphasized, "While this genetic deletion may have influenced Hitler's biological traits, it is impossible to genetically determine what kind of person he became." She added, "Hitler's policies were based on eugenics. If Hitler had seen his own genetic results, it is almost certain he would have sent himself to the gas chambers first."

The documentary also presents scientific evidence debunking the longstanding rumor that Hitler had Jewish ancestry. The production team confirmed, through comparison with the DNA of Hitler's relatives, that there is no evidence supporting a Jewish bloodline.
Meanwhile, some in academia have raised concerns that such attempts may revive another form of biological determinism in the name of science. Given the historical context in which Nazi Germany defined race and bloodline as "destiny" and massacred millions, they argue that attempts to explain human behavior through genetics are ethically dangerous.
In particular, some experts noted that while Hitler's physical defects or hormonal imbalances may have influenced his personality, obsession with power, or psychological instability, it is not scientifically valid to directly link these factors to his violent actions or political decisions. Historian Alex Kay pointed out, "His physical deficiencies or anxieties may have combined with an excessive need for control, but attempts to explain Hitler's cruelty solely through genetics or disease are a highly dangerous approach."
