Jangsu County Mobilizes All Efforts to Prevent Winter Water Supply Facility Freezing

"Minimizing Inconvenience for Residents"

Jangsu County in North Jeolla Province has established and is set to implement the "2025 Winter Water Supply Facility Freeze Prevention Plan."

According to the county on November 13, this plan was initiated to prevent damage to water supply facilities caused by sudden drops in temperature during the winter and to minimize inconvenience for residents.

The county has designated the period from November 15 of this year to March 15 of next year as the key freeze prevention period. During this time, an emergency restoration team will be organized to respond immediately to reports, promptly dispatch to the site, conduct emergency repairs, and work to minimize the spread of damage.

Additionally, the county will conduct preemptive inspections of major water supply facilities, aging water pipes, and vulnerable sections to check for any abnormalities. In areas at high risk for freezing, proactive measures such as reinforcing insulation will be implemented.

Guidelines for managing water supply facilities to prevent freezing are being promoted through each town and township office to raise awareness about winter freeze prevention.

Basic guidelines for preventing freeze damage include: ▲ wrapping the inside of the water meter box with old clothes or heat packs to maintain insulation; ▲ protecting exposed water pipes on exterior walls or balconies with insulation or thermal materials; ▲ letting tap water flow in a thin stream like a thread during prolonged cold spells or when leaving the house for extended periods due to travel or outings, to prevent freezing.

If the water supply does freeze, it should be thawed gradually using a hair dryer or a towel soaked in lukewarm water. Pouring boiling water directly can cause the pipes to burst and must be avoided.

County Governor Choi Hunsik stated, "The most important factor in preventing freeze damage to water supply facilities during cold waves is advance preparation at home," and urged, "Please familiarize yourself with the freeze prevention management guidelines for water supply facilities and actively participate in preventing freeze damage."
