"I want to manage my household finances"
Financial and asset management advice through chat
Income and expenses visualized in graphs
Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), Japan's largest bank, announced on November 12 that it will integrate its application (app) with OpenAI's conversational artificial intelligence (AI) service, ChatGPT. This marks the first time a Japanese company has incorporated ChatGPT into its financial services.
Customers will be able to connect ChatGPT to the bank's app to receive advice on financial and asset management. MUFG aims to introduce this integrated service by the fiscal year 2026.
OpenAI first launched this feature in the United States last month. Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei) reported that, with the concept of a "super app," a system where conversations with AI become the starting point of service usage could also spread in Japan.
If an MUFG customer enters "I want to manage my household finances" into ChatGPT, the app will authenticate the user and analyze deposit, withdrawal, and transfer data, visualizing income and expenses in a graph. Advice on how to utilize surplus funds will also be provided.
The AI will learn from conversation history, enabling it to answer more complex questions. Previously, chatbots were used for general inquiries, but these were limited to simple, repetitive tasks and did not provide practical assistance with household management.
Meanwhile, Mitsubishi UFJ plans to integrate ChatGPT not only into its banking app but also into group company apps and a forthcoming digital banking app. Address changes and service applications will continue to be handled through the existing banking app.
