Jung Wono, Seongdong District Mayor, Attributes Popularity to Support Similar to That for President Lee's Administrative Background

Regarding a Run for Seoul Mayor, "Still in Deep Consideration"

The mayor of Seongdong District, who is considered one of the leading candidates for the Seoul mayoral race from the ruling party, stated, "I believe that support for President Lee Jaemyung, who is recognized as a competent administrator and has a background in public administration, is being expressed through me, as I also share an administrative background."

On November 12, during an appearance on CBS Radio's "Kim Hyun-jung's News Show," Mayor Jung said, "It seems that the residents of Seongdong District have given me a positive evaluation," and added, "According to our own public opinion survey, over 70% of respondents said they believe that if they contact the district office about inconveniences in their daily lives, the issues will be resolved. I think this trust has become the foundation for the support I receive."

Mayor Jung, who is the only three-term district mayor in Seoul, has been called a "workaholic mayor" and has attracted attention on social media. During his tenure, he has led urban regeneration projects, transforming Seongsu-dong into a "hot place" representing Millennials & Gen Z. In addition, Seongdong District was the first in the country to introduce next-generation bus stops, installing "Seongdong-style smart heating and cooling benches," and has carried out comprehensive surveys of semi-basement homes to promote improvement projects for at-risk residences, continuing to pursue initiatives closely tied to residents' daily lives.

In particular, Mayor Jung is recognized for his field-oriented administration, such as making a dedicated contact number for civil complaints public to residents and personally handling more than 300 complaints a day.

Mayor Jung said, "If anyone feels inconvenienced, they can send me a text message, and I will reply," adding, "While I aim to respond within 48 hours as a rule, more complex issues may take longer as I need to consult with the relevant departments."

Regarding Seongsu-dong, he explained, "When I first took office as mayor in 2014, Seongsu was a rundown heavy industrial area, and it was actually difficult to find people there. Building owners, tenants, and the district office signed a mutual cooperation agreement in which building owners pledged not to excessively raise rents, and the district office provided budgetary and institutional support."

However, when asked about running for Seoul mayor, he was cautious, saying, "I am still considering it." He continued, "One of my strengths is that I have been verified through my administrative work. If I decide to run, increasing my name recognition will be a top priority, and I will need to have strategies in place to address that."
