Industry-Tailored Technology Analysis and R&D Proposals Stand Out
Fruit of Creative Convergence Education
Korea University of Technology and Education (KOREATECH) presented a 3D DRAM patent strategy at the "2025 Campus Patent Universiade (CPU)" and won the Presidential Award.
With this achievement, the university has demonstrated the strength of its practice-oriented engineering education, based on industry-tailored technology analysis and convergent problem-solving capabilities.
KOREATECH announced on the 12th that it has won the Presidential Award for the second consecutive year at the "2025 Campus Patent Universiade (CPU)," the largest intellectual property competition in Korea. The prize money is 20 million won.
This year’s competition was hosted by the Korean Intellectual Property Office and organized by the Korea Invention Promotion Association, with 1,456 teams from 79 universities nationwide and over 3,200 participants.
The winning team from KOREATECH consisted of Kim Hyunsoo from the School of Mechatronics Engineering, Lee Gaeun from the Department of Energy and Advanced Materials Chemical Engineering, and Yoo Jaeyoon from the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Communication Engineering. They took on the SK hynix challenge, "Analysis of Stacked (3D) DRAM Patents and Proposal of R&D Strategy."
The team received high praise for quantitatively and qualitatively analyzing key patents related to next-generation 3D DRAM technology-surpassing the limitations of conventional 2D DRAM-and for presenting a research and development direction tailored to corporate needs.
In particular, the collaboration among the three students from different majors to analyze the technology as a whole-including structure, process, and materials-demonstrated their capabilities as convergent talents for the industrial field.
The panel of judges commented, "Their patent analysis was at a professional level and their logical strategy formulation stood out," adding, "They completed a highly challenging task with a remarkable level of excellence for students."
Professor Jin Kyungbok of the School of Mechatronics Engineering received the Advisor Award, and other teams that participated in the Hyundai Motor Company and Jusung Engineering challenges also received Encouragement Awards.
President Yoo Gilsang stated, "Winning the Presidential Award for two consecutive years is the result of KOREATECH’s creative convergence education and field-oriented learning," and added, "We will continue to strengthen the cultivation of industry-demand-driven talent."
