A man and woman, presumed to be Chinese, were caught relieving themselves under the stone wall of Gyeongbokgung Palace in Jongno-gu, Seoul, sparking controversy. JTBC Incident Commander
On November 11, JTBC's "Incident Commander" reported, "A tip-off photo confirmed that a man and a woman were squatting side by side, relieving themselves under the stone wall near Sinmumun, the north gate of Gyeongbokgung Palace in Jongno-gu."
According to the report, the man was squatting under the bushes holding toilet paper, while next to him, a woman in white pants was also squatting in the same position.
After a short while, the woman left the spot, and there was an unidentified stain left on her clothing. The man was then seen awkwardly emerging from the bushes.
The location where they relieved themselves was the stone wall of Sinmumun at Gyeongbokgung Palace, the main royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty and Historic Site No. 117.
The informant told Incident Commander, "At the time, dozens of Chinese group tourists were visiting Gyeongbokgung Palace," adding, "The man and woman also appeared to be part of that group."
It is reported that their actions were stopped by police officers who were present at the scene.
Such behavior next to the stone wall of Gyeongbokgung Palace, a protected cultural heritage site, could constitute damage to public property or a violation of the Minor Offenses Act. However, it is known that no separate report was filed with the local police station.
