Dongjak District Opens "Kkamangdol Eoulmadang Art Hall," Its Third Public Arts Performance Venue

Expanding Cultural Experiences in Everyday Life for Residents

Dongjak District in Seoul (Mayor Park Ilha) has established and officially launched operations for its third public arts performance venue, the "Kkamangdol Eoulmadang Art Hall" (129 Seodal-ro).

On the 11th, the district held an opening ceremony attended by Mayor Park Ilha, key guests, and around 80 local residents, marking the beginning of this new cultural space. This art hall is the third achievement of the 8th popularly elected administration's "One Neighborhood, One Performance Venue Project" and was completed by remodeling the first basement floor (239.85㎡) of the Kkamangdol Library.

The art hall, created as a complex cultural space coexisting with the library, features a 100-seat performance hall, office, and waiting rooms, and will be available for rental starting next month. A district official explained, "The unique aspect is that it combines a library and a performance venue, allowing residents to naturally experience performance culture in their daily lives."

The Dongjak Cultural Foundation will operate the facility, and to commemorate the opening, a series of free performances will be held through the end of the year, starting with a "Musical Gala Concert." On November 26, the theater company Hyunin will present a children's play, "Clowning Performance with Kids," and on December 10, the Kallos Symphony Orchestra will perform "Fantastic Harmony and Ensemble Classics."

The district and the foundation plan to collaborate with Kkamangdol Library, nearby daycare centers, and others to develop cultural and artistic programs, while also expanding opportunities for local artists and community cultural clubs to participate in performances. Through these efforts, they aim to foster the space as a resident-centered cultural community hub.

Mayor Park Ilha stated, "Kkamangdol Eoulmadang Art Hall is a new cultural communication space where residents and artists can come together," adding, "We will continue to promote the 'One Neighborhood, One Performance Venue' initiative so that all residents can enjoy cultural activities close to home."
