Hwasun County Council to Hold "Basic Income Policy Debate for Rural and Fishing Villages" on the 17th

Theme: "Basic Income for Rural and Fishing Villages: Creating Hwasun’s Future Together"

The Hwasun County Council in South Jeolla Province will hold a "Basic Income Policy Debate for Rural and Fishing Villages" at 1:00 p.m. on the 17th at the Manyeon Hall of the Hanioum Culture and Sports Center.


According to the Hwasun County Council on November 11, the debate aims to share the purpose and necessity of basic income for rural and fishing villages with local residents, and to seek future directions for the county’s initiatives. The event will be held under the theme "Basic Income for Rural and Fishing Villages: Creating Hwasun’s Future Together."

The purpose of the debate is for residents, experts, and council members to participate together, shaping local public opinion and building consensus and momentum for policy implementation.


In the first part, National Assembly members Shin Jung-hoon (representing Naju and Hwasun) and Yong Hyein (proportional representative), who jointly proposed the Basic Income for Rural and Fishing Villages bill in August, will serve as presenters, focusing on the purpose and policy direction of introducing basic income for rural and fishing villages.


In the second part, moderated by Professor Shin Kihyun of Jeonbuk National University, a panel discussion will take place with participants including Oh Byungki, Director of the Economic and Industrial Research Division at the Jeonnam Research Institute; Lee Kyuhyun, Jeollanam-do Provincial Council member; and Kim Sungin, President of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Farmers’ Solidarity Association.


This session will feature in-depth discussions on the tasks and practical directions for promoting basic income in rural and fishing villages in Hwasun County.


Oh Hyungyeol, Chairperson of the Hwasun County Council, stated, "I hope this debate will serve as an opportunity to collectively consider the direction of basic income policies for the sustainable development of rural areas and the improvement of residents’ quality of life," and added, "We ask for the active interest and participation of our residents."
