"Drunk Driving Is Absolutely Unacceptable"... Large-Scale Crackdown Ahead of Year-End and New Year Holidays

The Autonomous Police Committee and the Jeollanam-do Provincial Police Agency announced that they will conduct a "special crackdown on drunk driving" ahead of the year-end and New Year season, when drinking gatherings become more frequent.

According to the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency on November 11, all police stations in the province will carry out joint drunk driving crackdowns under the direction of the provincial police for 12 weeks, from today until January 31 next year.

This year, the number of drunk driving fatalities in Jeonnam was nine, a decrease of one person (-10%) compared to the same period last year (as of November 9). The number of traffic accidents also dropped by 29 cases (-16.3%) to 368. However, as more than 400 drunk driving accidents occur every year, there are ongoing calls for preventive measures to establish a culture that eradicates drunk driving.

An official from the Jeonnam Provincial Police stated, "In addition to the special joint crackdown led by the provincial police, each police station will also conduct unannounced spot checks for drunk driving in both urban and rural areas, two to three times a week, both during the day and at night."
