The Eight Scenic Views of Jeokbyeok
Captured on Canvas Through the Eyes of Four Artists
The 2nd Light Art Exhibition is being held from November 3 to 15 at Cheongsan Art Hall, Geumsan Darakwon, located in Geumsan-eup, Geumsan County, South Chungcheong Province.
Participating artists include Kil Jeongok, Park Sunhwa, Yoon Myunghee, and Ha Jaehee, who are showcasing works themed "Jeokbyeogae, Red Cliff Blue Time."
Ha Jaehee, head of Light Art, stated, "The breathtaking scenery of Jeokbyeokgang, with its red cliffs and rapids along the Geumgang River in Sutong-ri, Buri-myeon, Geumsan County, has been recorded as one of the Eight Scenic Views of Jeokbyeok in the ancient 'Geumgye-rok.' Over time, its appearance has changed, but its beauty still shines."
She added, "The four artists have each captured the scenery of Jeokbyeokchuwol, Childamchunpa, Jindangyangryu, Jukyeonmoyeon, Gupoeojeok, Jaryeongcheongpung, Matanhongyo, and Galseontangeum-eight poetic landscapes engraved on the monument built in Sutong-ri this June-through their own perspectives on canvas."
She continued, "This exhibition serves as an artistic record, aiming to pass down the splendid nature and cultural memories of Jeokbyeokgang and the Eight Scenic Views of Jeokbyeok to future generations."
Meanwhile, Ha Jaehee, who also serves as the head of Light Art, is holding her first solo exhibition in the same venue.
Her solo exhibition, themed "Empathy·Joy and Sorrow," runs from November 3 to 15. The works portray the emotions of "joy and sorrow," which cannot exist in isolation and reflect each other like light and darkness, onto the canvas.
Drawing from her clinical experience in psychological counseling and art therapy, the artist delicately expresses the textures of emotion embedded in people's faces and gestures through subtle colors and brushstrokes.
The artworks vividly capture the human will and beauty that persist in life despite sorrow.
Ha commented, "We see sorrow within joy, and joy within sorrow," adding, "Just as light and darkness reflect each other, these two emotions are inseparable."
She further stated, "This exhibition captures on canvas the textures of joy and sorrow that permeate people's faces and gestures, and the beautiful human spirit that allows us to live each moment despite sadness."
Ha studied painting (Western art) at Mokwon University, earned master's degrees in art therapy at Woosuk University and in family counseling at the Graduate School of Healing Counseling, and completed doctoral coursework in public health at Wonkwang University Graduate School.
