Kim Bonghyun's Attorney Files Complaint Against Three Incumbent Prosecutors in 'Lime Scandal'

The attorney who represented Kim Bonghyun, former chairman of Star Mobility and a key figure in the Lime Asset Management redemption suspension scandal (hereafter referred to as the Lime scandal), has filed a police complaint against three incumbent prosecutors in connection with the case, which involves more than 1.6 trillion won.

Attorney Lee, who previously served as Kim's legal representative, announced on November 7 that he had filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency against three incumbent prosecutors on charges including false accusation.

Attorney Lee claimed that the three prosecutors manipulated the case during the investigation of the Lime scandal in the past and argued that they should be punished.

In the complaint, Attorney Lee accused Prosecutor A of false accusation, stating, "He is suspected of having Kim Bonghyun make a false statement in which Kim's attorney was identified as the person who arranged a drinking party for prosecutors, and this was recorded in the investigation request. However, the drinking party is a historical fact."

Attorney Lee also filed complaints against Prosecutors B and C for offenses including the fabrication of official documents. He asserted, "It was confirmed that there was no false accusation by the victim and Kim Bonghyun conspiring to create this document related to the Lime case. Nevertheless, an arrest warrant was requested in contradiction to these facts."

Attorney Lee further argued that the investigation by these prosecutors was motivated by retaliation. In the complaint, he stated, "The victim provided investigative leads, which resulted in the prosecutors being punished and disciplined. In retaliation, prosecutors from the same special investigation division committed serious crimes that contradict historical and objective evidence. I request that they be severely punished."

In 2020, Kim, the main perpetrator of the Lime scandal, revealed that he had treated the three prosecutors to a drinking party worth about 10 million won.
