Jeju Special Self-Governing Province has secured an additional budget to supply 120 more electric vehicles after the initial budget was exhausted early, and will resume accepting applications starting November 12.
Due to a surge in applications in the second half of the year, the budget was depleted by the end of October, but an additional 600 million won has been secured.
Jeju Province is actively promoting the transition to electric vehicles as a core policy for achieving carbon neutrality and a clean Jeju. The supply of electric vehicles is proceeding successfully, thanks to strong public interest and active participation from residents.
As of October 27, the number of electric vehicle applications this year reached 5,407, a 58% increase compared to the same period last year (3,421). Out of the initial target of 6,022 vehicles, 5,407 have already been supplied, achieving a supply rate of 89.8%. With the additional 120 vehicles, the achievement rate is expected to exceed 90% of the target.
Jeju's electric vehicle supply rate stands at 10.58%, the highest in the country. This additional supply is expected to further accelerate the realization of a clean Jeju.
The early exhaustion of the budget has been attributed to several factors: the application threshold was lowered by excluding the requirement for proof of parking space; the number of new vehicle models increased in the second half of the year; and there was a temporary surge in demand for electric cargo vehicles during the mandarin orange harvest season in November and December.
On October 28, Jeju Province held meetings with dealerships and sales companies to assess actual demand and secured a total of 600 million won in additional funding. The province also plans to minimize complaints by ensuring fairness in the application process and establishing an integrated online and offline information system.
Applications for electric vehicle purchase support can be submitted through the Zero Emission Vehicle Integrated Portal. For inquiries, contact the Electric Vehicle Support Team at the Space Mobility Division of Jeju Provincial Government.
