The Social Economy Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea in Gwangju Seo-gu (Eul) held its inaugural ceremony and signed a business agreement with the Gwangju Seo-gu Social Economy Federation on November 7 at the AB Gallery in Seo-gu, Gwangju, reaffirming their commitment to cooperation for revitalizing the local social economy and fostering sustainable community development.
Approximately 40 people attended the event, including Yang Bunam, National Assembly member for Gwangju Seo-gu (Eul) from the Democratic Party of Korea, officials from the regional committee, executives from related social economy organizations, and the federation. Together, they marked a new beginning for collaboration between the political party and the private sector in the social economy.
In his congratulatory remarks, Assemblyman Yang Bunam stated, "Today's gathering is the starting point where, like a musical harmony, different melodies come together to create a grand harmony in the local social economy. The Gwangju Seo-gu Social Economy Federation is an organization comprised of individuals who have quietly played key roles at the center of local care, welfare, employment, and community restoration. Moving forward, we will establish a structure in Gwangju Seo-gu where voices from the field are directly reflected in policy through the committee. I will actively support the social economy so that it becomes a pillar of the local economy."
After the agreement ceremony, a policy discussion and open forum were held on the topic of "The Direction and Challenges for the Social Economy in Gwangju Seo-gu."
Goo Moonjeong, Chairperson of the Social Economy Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea in Gwangju Seo-gu (Eul), said, "The social economy is a practical alternative that can simultaneously address welfare, employment, and local community issues. The committee will play a central role in ensuring that policies are designed based on voices from the field and that a governance system of party-civil cooperation is established starting in Gwangju Seo-gu (Eul)."
This agreement builds upon and develops the "Five Major Policy Pledges on Social Economy" agreement signed in January 2024 between Yang Bunam, then a preliminary candidate, and the Gwangju Seo-gu Social Economy Federation.
