Cho Kuk to Han Donghoon’s ‘Prosecution Already Dead’ Remark: “Keep Your Mouth Shut”

"Already Dead Due to Abuse of Power by Yoon Sukyeol and Han Donghoon"
Assemblyman Jeon Yonggi: "Political Prosecutors Show No Remorse"

Former Emergency Committee Chairman of the National Innovation Party, Cho Kuk, strongly refuted the 'prosecutor suicide' statement made by former People Power Party leader Han Donghoon.

On the previous day, November 8, Cho posted on his Facebook, saying, "The prosecution in South Korea did not die on November 8. It had already died when political prosecutors led by Yoon Sukyeol and Han Donghoon abused prosecutorial power in their attempt to seize political power," and sharply added, "Keep your mouth shut."

Cho continued, "The two of them seized the positions of President and Minister of Justice and used the prosecution as their lapdog. Yoon Sukyeol and Han Donghoon, who are the main culprits responsible for the death of the prosecution, have no right to speak." He further stated, "The media that sang the sycophantic praises of Yoon Sukyeol with the embarrassing 'The Tiger is Coming' anthem, the political prosecutors who wielded their swords recklessly to create a prosecution regime, the opportunistic intellectuals who defended the selective and biased investigations of the Yoon Sukyeol prosecution and insisted that criticism of Kim Keonhee was misogyny, and the politicians who recognized Kim Keonhee's power and did everything to align themselves with her-all of these were accomplices to the Yoon-Kim administration."

Earlier on the same day, Han Donghoon posted on Facebook, "At midnight on November 8, the prosecution in South Korea committed suicide," and added, "Everyone involved from the Presidential Office, Ministry of Justice, Supreme Prosecutors' Office, and Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office who gave the dirty and illegal order to drop the appeal for Lee Jaemyung must go to prison."

This remark also drew criticism from within the ruling party. Jeon Yonggi, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Korea, commented, "When there was no investigation into Kim Keonhee and the appeal for Yoon Sukyeol was abandoned, Han Donghoon kept silent, but now he calls it the suicide of the prosecution. If that's the case, Han Donghoon should first apologize to his junior prosecutors." Jeon further pointed out, "From the prosecution's perspective, isn't Han Donghoon himself one of those responsible for killing the prosecution? Seeing Yoon Sukyeol's attitude during the rebellion trial and Han Donghoon's conduct in the political arena, it seems that former political prosecutors never show any remorse." He also added, "When the appeal against Yoon Sukyeol's release was abandoned, there was not a word of protest, but now he is openly throwing his position away. Why didn't he raise issues back then? In the end, this only proves once again that the prosecution was a political group."

On November 7, the prosecution decided to drop its appeal against five defendants, including Kim Manbae, who had been sentenced to prison for corruption related to the Daejang-dong development scandal. Initially, the prosecution leadership, including the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, had planned to proceed with the appeal, but reportedly reversed the decision following the Ministry of Justice's opinion that an appeal was unnecessary. As the controversy grew, on November 8, just one day after the decision to drop the appeal, Jeong Jinwoo, the Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, tendered his resignation.
