"APT." Nominated for Three Awards Including Record of the Year
"K-Pop Demon Hunters" OST "Golden" Up for Five Categories
Cat's Eye, Musical "No Other Choice" Also Nominated
Ros? of BLACKPINK and the original soundtrack (OST) of the Netflix animation "K-Pop Demon Hunters" (K-Pop Demon Hunters) have been nominated in the General Fields, the main categories of the 68th Grammy Awards.
According to the list of nominees announced by the Recording Academy on November 7 (local time), Ros? was nominated for "Song of the Year" and "Record of the Year" with "APT.," a collaboration with Bruno Mars. She was also included in the "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance" category, earning nominations in a total of three categories.
The "K-Pop Demon Hunters" OST "Golden" was nominated in five categories: "Song of the Year," "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance," "Best Song Written for Visual Media," "Best Remixed Recording" for the David Guetta remix version, and "Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media" for the OST album. This marks the first time that two K-pop songs have been nominated simultaneously in the "Song of the Year" category, out of the eight nominated songs.
HYBE's global girl group Cat's Eye was nominated for "Best New Artist" and "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance."
The Korean original musical "No Other Choice" was nominated for "Best Musical Theater Album" with its original Broadway cast album. This work had previously won six Tony Awards.
Foreign media also regarded this round of nominations as a significant change. The Los Angeles Times reported, "Several K-pop artists have been nominated in major categories," while Forbes noted, "This is the first time K-pop has been nominated in the main Grammy categories." The BBC introduced Ros? as "the first K-pop idol to be nominated in the Grammy's 'Big Four' categories."
The Grammy Awards have been held annually since 1959 by the Recording Academy, an organization of music professionals including singers, producers, engineers, and critics. The awards are known for their rigorous focus on musical excellence, making them a particularly challenging honor to receive.
There have been few cases of Korean musicians being nominated in the main categories. Soprano Jo Sumi won "Best Opera Recording" in 1993, and sound engineer Hwang Byeongjun has won twice. Among K-pop artists, BTS was nominated for "Album of the Year" in 2023, but did not win.
The Recording Academy will conduct final voting for each category's nominees from December 12 until January 5 next year. The 68th Grammy Awards ceremony will be held on February 1 next year at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, United States.
