Now in its 16th year, this expo runs for three days until the 9th, showcasing the present and future of Gangwon's bio-industry through a variety of content, including corporate exhibitions, overseas export consultations, and resident participation programs.

The opening ceremony was graced by key figures such as Kim Jin-tae, Governor of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province; National Assemblyman Heo Young; Chuncheon Mayor Yuk Donghan; Lee Kyungwon, Director of Gangwon Regional Public Procurement Service; and Park Soonhong, Director of Gangwon Regional Office of SMEs and Startups.

Notably, the themed video featured a moving and vivid AI-powered restoration of the late Bae Gyesub, former mayor of Chuncheon, who laid the foundation for Gangwon’s bio-industry.

This year’s expo features 106 bio companies and institutions from the province, including leading Gangwon-based firms such as UbioLogics (pharmaceuticals) and Boditech Med (in vitro diagnostics), all exhibiting their cutting-edge technologies and products.

Of particular note is the export consultation event, which has invited 60 overseas buyers from 13 countries. This event offers tailored one-on-one matching sessions and is expected to provide Gangwon bio companies with a substantial opportunity to strengthen their foundation for entering the global market.

In addition to corporate exhibitions, various programs have been prepared to help residents become more familiar with the bio-industry. Hands-on activities such as resident-driven crowdfunding, DIY custom cosmetics, children’s job experience, and VR science experiences will be available throughout the event.

Especially on the 8th and 9th, there will be special lectures by well-known figures such as science communicator Lee Sunho (Exo Teacher), animal YouTuber Jungbeureu, and renowned diet specialist Professor Park Yongwoo, as well as science performances (Wonder Magic, Dr. Hoya), offering a wealth of entertainment for visiting families.

Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province expects that this expo will enhance residents’ understanding of future industries, provide companies with practical business opportunities, and firmly establish Gangwon’s bio-industry as a core growth engine for South Korea.

In his opening remarks, Governor Kim Jin-tae stated, "For the first time this year, we are holding a large-scale export consultation event for overseas buyers," and emphasized, "With Gangwon’s export target of 3 billion dollars within reach this year, I hope this Bio Expo will serve as a catalyst to achieve that goal."

He also presented a vision, calling for support so that "this expo will grow beyond Korea to become the center of global K-Bio, connecting Korea, the United States, and Japan."
