"Kim Keonhee Never Used the Necklace"
It has been confirmed that Kim Keonhee's legal team has requested a DNA analysis from the court to determine the actual user of a luxury necklace worth around 60 million won, which Kim is suspected of having received from the Unification Church through Jeon Seongbae, also known as Geonjin Bopsa.
Kim Keonhee, the spouse of former President Yoon Sukyeol, is attending the first trial related to charges including bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, violations of the Capital Markets Act, and the Political Funds Act at the Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-dong, Seoul on the 24th. According to legal sources on November 7, Kim's defense team submitted a statement to the 27th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Woo Inseong), requesting, "Please commission a DNA analysis of the Graff necklace to a reputable institution."
In the statement, the defense argued, "There is a high likelihood that DNA could be detected on areas that repeatedly come into contact with the skin, such as the clasp and chain," and requested the court to "commission a reputable institution, such as the National Forensic Service, to conduct a DNA analysis on the surface and worn areas of the necklace." The legal team reportedly believes that DNA analysis could prove that Kim Keonhee never used the necklace.
While Kim Keonhee has admitted to receiving two Chanel bags from the Unification Church between April and July 2022, she has denied ever receiving the Graff necklace.
However, the special prosecutor's team believes that Yoon, the former head of the Unification Church's World Headquarters, gave the items to Kim Keonhee through Jeon in an attempt to lobby her regarding church matters, and that Kim accepted both the Chanel bags and the Graff necklace.
The special prosecutor's team reportedly considers that, since Jeon has testified in court multiple times that he delivered both the bags and the necklace to Kim Keonhee, the fact of the exchange can be proven even without biometric evidence such as DNA or fingerprints.
