Ulsan Power Plant Collapse: Death Toll Rises to 2, 3 Presumed Dead

Three More Found on the Morning of the 7th; One Confirmed Dead
Two Others Presumed Dead as Rescue Operations Continue

The death toll from the collapse at the Ulsan thermal power plant has risen to two.


According to fire authorities on November 7, nine workers were buried in the collapse that occurred during the demolition of a boiler tower at Korea East-West Power’s Ulsan Thermal Power Plant at around 2:02 p.m. the previous day. As of 10 a.m. on the day of reporting, two people have been confirmed dead, three are presumed dead, and the condition of two others remains unknown.

Immediately after the accident, a man in his 40s and a man in his 60s were each rescued and transported to the hospital. Although they sustained serious injuries, their lives are not in danger. Fire authorities conducted rescue operations for the remaining seven workers, discovering two of them the previous day. One was rescued but later pronounced dead, while the other is also presumed dead, though rescue teams have had difficulty reaching the location.


On the morning of November 7, fire authorities discovered three additional buried workers at 7:34 a.m., 8:44 a.m., and 8:52 a.m. Of these, one was rescued and transported to the hospital, but was later pronounced dead. The remaining two are presumed dead as rescue operations continue.


The whereabouts and condition of the other two workers have yet to be determined.
