Nonprofit Jobs Account for 5.1% of All Positions in Gyeonggi Province
Nonprofit Sector Generates 14.35% of Total GRDP, Amounting to 84.2914 Trillion Won

The Gyeonggi-do Public Interest Activity Support Center will hold three forums on policy research for revitalizing nonprofit jobs by the end of this year.

The center announced on the 7th that it will hold forums to disseminate the results of the "Gyeonggi Province Nonprofit Job Revitalization Policy Research" on the 18th of this month at the Gunpo City Public Interest Activity Support Center, on the 28th at the E-Convergence Hall in the 3rd International Building of Pyeongtaek University, and on the 2nd of next month at the northern branch of the Gyeonggi-do Public Interest Activity Support Center.

The center is organizing these forums in cooperation with city and county public interest activity support centers in the province, under the title, "Discussing the Future of the Region through Nonprofit Jobs."

The research for this forum was commissioned by the center and carried out by the Nonprofit Management Research Institute.

According to the commissioned research, as of 2023, there were an estimated 163,482 nonprofit jobs in the province, accounting for 5.01% of all jobs. In addition, the gross regional domestic product (GRDP) generated by nonprofit jobs was 84.2914 trillion won, representing 14.35% of the province's total GRDP of 587.3286 trillion won.

The results of this research by the Nonprofit Management Research Institute are considered significant in that they provide a policy basis for revitalizing nonprofit jobs in the province, as well as a research model that can be expanded to other regions.

In particular, this is the first case nationwide to empirically confirm that the public interest role performed by the nonprofit sector in local communities not only realizes social value but also leads to economic value and employment effects.

Yoo Myunghwa, Director of the Gyeonggi-do Public Interest Activity Support Center, stated, "Nonprofit jobs are important positions that realize social value while also sustaining the local economy. I hope that this policy basis, proactively established through the center's research project, will serve as a catalyst for revitalizing nonprofit jobs not only in cities and counties within Gyeonggi Province but also across the country."
